Installing Carpet in a Studio Apartment

Installing Carpet in a Studio Apartment

I am interested in changing the carpet in my apartment. I have lived in the apartment for three years and within that span I have raised bunnies that have manage to make a mess of the place. I have tried cleaning but I really have my heart on having new carpet. I want to be proud if visitors come over and as of right now I do not feel comfortable having any guest over. What has been your experience asking the landlord to install new carpet? I understand I would have to pay a fee. I am worried if I ask they might want to kick me out of the apartment due to the carpet damage. Maybe I am being silly? Please help. I also thought about installing carpet myself. Home Depot seems pricy to install new padding and carpet. They wanted over a $1000 for a 450 sq ft studio. Would a smaller company charge less? If it makes a difference I am living in an apartment complex.
