Irresponsibility

Irresponsibility

My husband is irresponsible. There’s no way around it.

Since we’ve moved to this house, in May 2007, he’s had to replace his license at least four times, his debit card three, and after making this post, I have to go through the dirty clothes, hoping to find his wallet, otherwise, we have to cancel & replace them all again. Since 2004, when we opened our joint checking account, he’s had no less than half a dozen debit cards.

The obvious answer is give him cash. Only he’s more irresponsible with cash. With cash, I can’t “see” what he’s doing, so he just spends it because I can’t say anything about it. I only know when it’s gone.

I don’t even know what to do with him. If I give him cash and he runs out, he’ll take my debit card to pay for his meals or whatever he needs during the day.

Are there any pay-as-you-go credit cards that don’t charge you $5 every time you add cash, or $50/year, or whatever? I want something like an all-purpose gift card for him. But something that can be traced, like a real credit card, in case it does get lost. So we’re not out that cash, kwim?

Also, any suggestions on how to get him to keep better track of his things? This is driving me nuts. I swear, every other month we go through this!
