It’s All Relative

It’s All Relative

I've been enjoying the pictures of everyone'sw gardening successes for weeks now, and have yet to get started on my garden. The seeds I planted in peat pots and egg cartons a few weeks back, never even germinated. Be it due to cooler temps., or not enough moisture, who knows. All I know is that I had one very enjoyable morning planting my babies. Somehow, alas, they all miscarried. :( We have had several very cold days and nights this past week, and days of cool and rainy weather. This is why we, in CFentral N.Y., Zone 5, are advised to not begin planting until Memorial Day Wekend. And here we are, and just today, my order from Bluestone Perennials arrived. Voila! 3 Clematis, ( I adore clematis!), two Buddeleia ( Butterfly Bush), 6 Lady's Mantle, ( to shade the roots of the Clematis), and 3 Hydrangea. Woot! THis week, my friend, Marianne, gave me some morning glory seedlings, a violet, a small Bleeding Heart, and two packs of Hollyhocks, both single, and double. I'll be lucky to get this all in before my knee operation on June 6. I actually planned my surgery around planting season! So, if all goes well, I'll have at least that much in before I go under the knife in a week. I'm still waiting for my order to arrive from Richter's Herbs out of Toronto. I LOVE HERBS!!! So, dear gardening friends, carry on smartly, and enjoy the fruits of your labors. My work is just beginning!
