It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… maybe…

My family's rule has always been is Christmas talk (and music, decorations, etc) have to wait till at least a week after Thanksgiving. But I was thinking about it today and decided I would ask-- has anyone here ever had a living Christmas tree? I feel like it's wasteful to cut down and pay for a tree every year, but I'd like to have an actual tree because faux trees never seem quite the same to me. So could we pot (or buy a pre-potted) evergreen to use year after year as a Christmas tree and as a decoration the rest of the year? And should I worry about my daughter (2 months old) having allergies to the evergreen?
