Ivy Monster

Ivy Monster

Hey folks. New member, first post, big challenge: I bought my parents' house this summer and now I need to overhaul the backyard to make it suitable for my gardening-filled future. My mother abhorred yard-work so she filled the yard with stones and ivy. This ivy is now of monstrous proportions. Like it might strangle you if you dare to come too close. But we dare. We plan to rip out most of it, power-wash the walls where it grew and do... something... to kill it in the soil so I can use the space for future projects. My question: what can I do, if anything, to prevent the ivy from coming back and yet keep the area safe for herbs and vegetables? Is it possible to do this within the next few months and still have a healthy garden in place by summertime? Photobucket
