Jacaranda growing back?
This is along the lines of the post made by ladyapple. I grew a Jacaranda tree from seed last year and I planted it when I moved to my house. I wanted to have a tree that would grow and be as old as when I moved it. I was so happy it had gotten six feet tall. But then we had 3 or 4 freeze nights. I thought the leaves would come back now that it's spring. When they didn't I worried that it was dead but I kept watering it. Now leaves are growing at the base. Oh no!! Did the main trunk die? Does it have to start all over a gain? Should I leave the old trunk? I'm worrying about it becoming a shrub instead of a huge tree. On the same note I ordered some butterfly bushes from Michigan Bulb Co. They were all "Killed" in those frosts. I water the dead sticks in the ground but I don't think they're coming back, not even from the ground. This is very disheartening. Oh I'm in Flordia zone 9 btw.
