Kitchen Help!

So I’m not really afraid of color, but I am afraid of making the kitchen even smaller than it already is. I need to know what colors would look good on the walls, and what color curtains? I love green, not a big fan of blue (but teal is good), and I love red. My problems with these colors: green, there’s so much greenery out the windows that I’m afraid to detract from that natural beauty, teal, what goes with teal? And all of my counter tops are cream, as is the door and the stove. Red, will it make the room look smaller? My other question is this: There is no separation between the living room and kitchen. Do I need to bring the curtain color into the living room windows, too?

Okay, on to the pictures:

This photo was taken from the living room area. We’re planning on putting some trim around the window and door, and maybe a shelf under the window. We want to paint that white wall something warm, or at least cool with warm curtains. This place is coastal and extremely cold in the winter (and most of the year for that matter), so it needs to invoke a warm and cozy feeling. We also want to paint the backsplash.
