Leave me alone!
I've been getting at least one "you've been prescreened!" notice a day in the mail for the past half-year. And I'm sick of it. My paper recycling bin is full of shredded copies of them by the end of the week and they're all over the house, multiplying each passing day. It's like the first Harry Potter, endless letters flying through the door, deluging my husband and I until we're up in our ears in mail trying to get us to change insurance companies, change cellphone plans, get hundreds of credit cards... I could probably tear them into strips, lick them and turn them into some kind of cave where I could sleep the next 60 years, only emerging to crawl through heating ducts and feast upon people's livers. Er, or maybe not. But it was a thought. I already posted this in my journal, but I figured I should share it with more people who are having this same problem. Go to optoutprescreen.com and register to get out of a majority of these offers. I called their toll-free number and had to confirm it was legit online, because I'm mistrustful of anyone asking for my full social security number. It's linked to from the FTC's website, though, so I guess I trust it. On a related note, if you're sick of getting solicitations via the telephone, go to Do Not Call and register your phone number with the government to place it on the national Do Not Call list. We'll just sit back and see if this stops in influx of crap in my mailbox.
