Long distance moving

Long distance moving

Hi everyone,

I’m moving in May from Iowa to Texas. I didn’t think it would cost so much for a small uhaul truck. They estimate that it would cost $1,300 for the 10″ truck towing my car on a trailer. The other option I thought of is paying $317 for a 4×8 trailer that I could possibly tow behind my car. I would have to install a tow hitch and a transmission radiator to do that though. And I have no idea how much a 4×8 trailer could actually carry, and if my car could really tow it when it was loaded. I have a Dodge Stratus R/T sedan.

So I come to you guys, the masters of doing things on the cheap, what would be the best way to move in this case? I also thought of just selling/giving away all my furniture and trying to pack everything into my car.

Any stories or advice are welcome. Thank you in advance!

ETA: For more information about this, I have not all that much stuff. Think of what you could fit into a single sized dorm room? Or small small studio apartment. I also found this website on recommendation from McCombs UT-Austin Twitter: uship.com.
