Mr. Lincoln

This rose was an unexpected success, but goes to show that even the $4 roses-in-a-plastic-bag at Lowe’s can give great results in the first year. This is a giant closeup of the flower for a reason – the leaves are still pretty chewed up from aphids, caterpillars, and godonlyknowswhatelse. I was late getting started on the neem oil/BT regimen, and we’ll probably lose some mini roses as a result, but live and learn. Roses are probably the most high maintenance plant we grow (we aren’t really into high maintenance gardening), and I still feel like I have absolutely *no* idea what I’m doing. The color is actually richer and darker than it appears in the photo, it’s actually hard to do it justice.

We’re here in Atlanta, zone 7B so unlike our colder friends in the north, we’ve been gardening for quite some time. Of course, it’s starting to get pretty hot and buggy, so, everything’s a tradeoff.
