MEGASQUASH (and questions)
howdy folks! i just wandered out to my garden today to peek on my veggies (i've been sick since Tuesday morning, so my powers of observation are nil), and holy crap has my squash gotten big. for a viney plant, it seems awfully tall...it easily hits mid-thigh on me (28" from the ground). now, we had a TON of rain over the past few weeks (this is the first rain-free week we've seen in maybe a month), so i understand the amount of growth, but holy crap. i had to take pictures to share because...holy crap...lol. (click to embiggen any and all pictures) now onto my questions (and a plant ID at the end). 1 - we have begonias on our front porch. today as i was watering i noticed one of them has ants in the blooms. wtf? is this normal? how do i get rid of them? they seem like they've made a home in the blooms...i didn't see aphids, so this makes no sense to me. 2 - i have a dwarf pomegranate. she was doing wonderfully while in the house, then i brought her outside...and now she looks spindly and her leaves look pitiful. how do i remedy this? 3 - i have 2 varieties of mint and catnip growing in a long pot. unfortunately, plant IDs went awry after a storm knocked everything off the porch (which also explains why that tomato is outside my fence in the squash pic - it established itself there without my knowledge!), so i need some help in figuring out what's what. i bought spearmint and peppermint. i'm also wondering if a plant that ended up in another pot entirely is one of the aforementioned mints. this is the one that ended up in another pot: thanks for any and all help...you folks are awesome!
