My neighbor lives upstairs and just told me that she went to the back of her closet to get out some older pants that she wanted to wear. It was then she discovered that the back of the closet, shelves and clothing are all covered in mold! She said the mold is blue-ish. Im guessing since she is on the second floor, there might be a leak in the roof somewhere which we'll have to inform the landlord about. Anyway, what can she do to clean her clothing and the interior of the closet? I told her bleach is good for killing mold and I recommended she wear a facial mask and gloves during the process (and use a fan to pull out the fumes). Should she use straight up bleach on the painted walls? The floor is wood (all the wood floors in this house are beat up), should she use bleach on that as well? A mixture of bleach and water or ? As for the clothing....can she put it straight into the washer machine? She is concerned about using hot water since it would possibly shrink the clothing or make colors run. She usually does all washes in cold water. She can bleach all the white clothing but what about everything else? I've heard dry cleaning is good for mold. Can she use the at home dry cleaning kits? Thanks for any advice!
