These were such a part of my semi-rural childhood that I’m always startled to see them in NYC, but this one was in my garden tonight:
Unrelated, why might some of my large tomatoes be developing small spots of rot on the sides? They haven’t been bruised unless the birds have been doing something sinister, and the plants look healthy. The rot doesn’t go much deeper than the skin and the rest of the tomato looks and tastes fine. This has never happened to me before. Any thoughts?
