i have social anxiety and making phone calls is difficult for me. i'm trying to prepare myself for a call to my mortgage lender. i was unable to work for 16 months. during this time i received disability from my job (NOT social security disability). my job legally fired me when i went on long term disability (short term only lasts 6 months). the disability payments are enough to cover my mortgage, but nothing else, so for the last 18 months every bill and living expense was paid by credit card, including my credit card payments. i've recently returned to work part-time at a new job, which cut my disability payment, and i wont be able to return to full-time anytime soon. not to mention i'm not even making half what i was making per hour before. i've reached a dead end credit-wise. i have 3 credit cards nearly maxed out at 25k total, a home equity loan, and a mortgage payment, and i cant pay them all anymore. i need to finish fixing up my house before i can put it up for sale, which i hope to do soon. the credit card companies wont lower my interest rates. two are 8.99, the third is 13.99 because i made late payments. i only have 11 payments left on my home equity loan (put new windows in the house back when i was still working). even if i sell my house it wont pay off all my debt, but it will come close. i need to ask for help, but i dont know how. what can i say to each of these five separate lenders? what kind of help can i even ask for? can i ask for respite from mortgage payments for a couple months? what kind of help exactly is offered for foreclosure prevention? i just need to make it a few more months until i can put my house up for sale.
