Most bang for our buck….
Background: We just moved from Ohio to Houston in April. I have been a SAHM to my 11 month old boy but with gas prices causing all prices to go up, we figured out that I need to go back to work. i am a RN with about 2 years experience. 1 year in Med-surg and a couple months in LDPP. My husband has insurance for the family. Its a 80/20 plan with a $400.00 per person deductible with a max of $2,000 per person per year, or $3,600 per family per year. I am 8 weeks pregnant with our second child and am looking for which solution would be the best bang for our buck. Job Categories: I spoke to the nursing recruiter and she said that once I got hired I had the choice to take these positions. I am looking to work 2 12-hour shifts a week, which in nursing is considered part time. Per diem/PRN: They have three categories, but I will only outline the category I am interested in. PRN-3: X4.00/hr. (10.00 more an hour than part-time) There is a 4 shift minimum per month and 2 of those shifts have to be on a weekend. I asked the rep and she said you could work as many days as you want. This seems more flexible to me because it sounds like you pick your shifts. This would be ideal but you get NO benefits. And NO sign on bonus. Part- Time: They said since I only have 2 years experience they would pay me X4.68. While this is nothing to sneeze at I don't know if its worth 10.00 less an hour. They will give me a $5,000. sign on bonus, paid in 4 installments every 90 days you are there. If you leave early you don't have to pay anything back, you just dont get the rest of it. They do give you part time benefits (which in ohio was just a little more expensive than full time benefits). Now in Ohio, my benefits payed in full once I got pregnant so I didn't have to pay a penny once I got pregnant all the way through delivery. So, poor skillers, debate, and tell me which job would be more worth it.
