Mostly Complaining, But I Would Like Some Advice/Suggestions

Well, up until this past month I have loved living in my apartment. Its my first place completely by myself (no room mates). Its low income housing, which is really nice considering I just returned to school in the fall....... and continuing to work the 3 jobs I was working was impossible. With the way my class schedule is I can only work one job right now.......Anyway, back to the complaint... I have to pay my own heat. Really I didn't think it was going to be so bad. I live on the third floor, so my place is usually really warm all the time. I never turn the heat above 70. I've been good about keeping my heating bills low....usually under $50 a month. Well, this month my bill is up over $100. I know thats not much compared to most people, but I'm just in shock. I live in the middle of no where in upper michigan (i'm talking the upper peninsula....its located above the mackinaw bridge for all those who don't know where it is). I'm sure between gas prices going up and the fact that during the billing period we had plenty of days when the temperature was in the negative double digits had something to do with the huge jump in my bill, but I guess are there any suggestions on how I can bring that back down? I know keeping the temperature low will help... but anything else? Also, does anyone have any experience with working out a payment plan with their gas company? As it is the weekend, I can't get ahold of anyone right now besides a computer, and I'm not going to call the emergency line just to ask them about this. Thanks in advance!
