moving a car

moving a car

So we are moving almost form one corner of the country to another (in the US). Upon setting up our rental reservation and trying to set up a tow for our car, we were told our car (a sub-compact, geo metro) was too small to tow (we already sold our second car rather than worry about how to move it) so we got a truck 10 feet longer than we originally planned and decided to put the car into the truck (ok, not the most thought out idea, but we were going with what we had). The ramp we were going to use is not available on weekends, and due to some confusion, we did not realize they closed early on fridays, so we were unable to use it. My other half’s step mother insists this is illegal due to the small print on the rental contract, and that we should get a tow from a rental truck competitor instead. Looking through the small print, there is no restrictions regarding a vehicle in the cab, but there are restrictions that only their equipment can be used to tow with their vehicles. We know of a location where we can load the car with a ramp, but it is a 7 hour drive away, and it would affect our plans of taking turns driving to not have to stop to sleep for the first couple of days. The cost of shipping the vehicle is about what the car cost us, so that’s not really an option. Any suggestions as to where to find a ramp to load a car into a moving truck? I know of places where we would be able to use differences in lawn elevations, except we are located in an area with a bit of snow on it, so we not able to use such options.
