Moving decisions

Moving decisions

I feel weird asking but I need advice. My husband and I are moving this November. For a while we planned to move to another city, about an hour away, but now we're debating on staying in this town. The problems with this town are: - Job market is terrible (he's had a hard time finding a job in the two years we've lived here...he has one right now by sheer luck and it's not going to last for much longer) - We will move in a year anyway (better school district, bigger place, etc. in the new city) The benefits to staying here though means we have casual acquaintances, we know the place and it will be (possibly, but not necessarily) a few hundred dollars cheaper to move. The thing is...the new city is bigger, seems to be busier and have more retail (not that we know what the job market is like, but it does seem like there is just more there, over all). Moving there does mean incurring a little more debt than if we were to move in this town, and we don't know anyone. The cost of living is mostly the same. We'll be paying more in rent anyway, since we're going from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom no matter where we move. I'm not committed to either idea, because by staying here, we're choosing familiarity while we get our stuff together for a year (we meant to do it this past year but we were both laid off and it ate all of our savings, stimulus, etc.) and THEN move to the new city. Is the job market that bad everywhere? My husband has applied everywhere in town and it just doesn't seem like there are jobs anymore. I know my thoughts are all over the place, but I would really appreciate some help. I feel like the answer is crystal clear but I can't see it. =(
