Moving Help!!

So, in about a month and a half to two months, my SO and I will be moving from Southern Texas to Southern California to live near Camp Pendleton where he is stationed. We won’t be moving a TON of stuff and certainly not any furniture. Mainly we’ll be needing to move clothing.
We’ll be traveling with an infant and a lot of infant items such as carseat/stroller system, playpen, etc. I know that the military has some free moving programs, but you only get to do that once and since we’ll need to move again in a year across the country to Boston where we’ll be staying for a while, we plan on using the services when we’ll really need them, especially since we’ll have more things to move such as furniture.
What is the cheapest way to do this and transport our vehicle? I don’t want to ship everything since that will just cost way too much. We’ll be driving in a small family car and the back seat can’t really be used since the baby and I will be sitting there and I doubt that everything would fit in the trunk. Also, there is no way that I can drive while my SO drives a rental truck since the baby is just way too young. Would it be cheaper for the baby and I to fly while my SO drives since it is just one way or would it be too risky traveling alone with an infant? I think everything we would be taking could pretty much fit in the back of a pickup truck, so if we flew while he drove, would it basically cost as much as renting a truck/van if everything fits in the car sans the baby and I?
Any suggestions would really be appreciated!
