Anyone have experience growing muscadines? I've got them all over my property and want to bring some into our garden area. We had a huge harvest last year, with fruit that was literally twice the size of what I'm used to finding in the woods. I want those giant fruit in my yard! LOL I'm brand new to gardening, so please forgive my ignorance. Weather seems fine for transplanting some vines, as it's still very cool overall. Am I right in thinking this is a good time to move them? I've got space, but I've read they need 20' long trellis and secondary ones need to be 12' away. Is that right? Seems too far apart, and I would like more in that area. I want to put the trellis' in a space that people will see and walk through, and happens to be over our septic tank. Other than mulch, is there a ground cover of some sort that won't bother the vines? I know grass and (obviously) weeds are out, but are there other green things I could plant? Thanks for any help you can offer.
