Today I had plans for working on Lottie (no that’s not my girlfriend, it’s my allotment) but my body didn’t agree. So off went girlfriend to strim Lottie’s paths while I potted up some aubergines and sweet peppers for the greenhouses. And I sowed some butternut squash seeds. Most of this year’s cucurbits are doing well but the butternuts didn’t germinate so I think the seed packet wasn’t fresh enough. Girlfriend did the supermarket trip today, alone because I couldn’t walk, and she came home with a new packet of butternut seeds. She’s not even a keen gardener… or so she claims. But she bought those seeds, she put up my greenhouses last year, and she made me a potting bench in the cellar. We’re so going to enjoy these butternuts when they’re ready to eat.
