My friends sisters garden update…

You might remember me posting about doing my friends garden. I talked to her and we both decided that it was a bit too late to do anything with it. So I'm just going to clean out her overgrown flower beds, including the vegetable patch in the backyard that was taken over by pests and weeds. The plants in the front all look healthy, but she just doesn't want all the green. So I'm going to go over there some time after next weekend (Harry Potter festivities are taking all my time) and just weeding it and cutting back the weeds in the vegetable patch. I don't see a reason in removing all the plants before next spring. I was just wondering if there's anything I should do with the soil to get it ready for next spring? I'm planning on doing Roses, Sunflowers, the small orange flowers that I can't remember the name of (I think it has a G in it, very popular, round flowers often used in companion planting), and a couple different types of Lavender. In the vegetable patch I'm planning your basic veggies. Tomatoes, peppers, Garlic (in the fall), onions, and carrots. Zone 5-6, central CT.
