My Gardening Hat!

My Gardening Hat!

So I went to an horticultural seminar this past weekend and one of the things we were supposed to bring was our gardening hats, all decorated, whichever way we chose. So here is mine.

I added a real birdhouse from the rose bush at the back of the house, along with artificial bird, as well as miniature terra cotta flower pots with flowers, glued to rafia for the band. The butterflies are free floating on wire, and I added a bird feeder wind chime that I had in a plant in the house. A Canadian Flag stuck out the back, because I am proudly Canadian.
I had lots of admirers of my hat, when we wore them to the supper on Saturday night. Everyone asked to take my picture. Although they cancelled the competition, I’m sure my hat would have won. As it was, everyone who wore a hat was given a ticket and they had draws. I won a lovely flowering maple. This one will replace the one I lost last year.
I also won a beautiful needlepoint artwork, professionally framed, a birdhouse that I will have to give a couple of coats of varathane before putting outside, and an outdoor planter, potted up with a lilly, daisy, creeping Jenny, and a couple of other plants I’m not sure the name of. It was a great weekend, as we had a teacup planting workshop, all teacups and flowers and greenery provided. Also, there was a soap company there, showing us how to make home made soaps and balms, another who showed us how to make wind chimes, and another presentation on bonsai’s. We all came back home, happy but tired.
