I just joined this community today; it was nice to find something that was all about apartments, instead of just single family dwellings (a.k.a. Houses).
I’ve been living in my basement suite/apartment for just over a year. My landlord is my boss’s husband, so it works out perfectly. I’m allowed to paint, rip things out, replace things… basically do whatever I want, so long as I paint nothing black, or purple (they’re hard to cover and he doesn’t like them).
I’ve done some work already. I’ve painted every room BUT the bathroom (I’m leaving off on it till they fix the drywall around the tub/shower). Painted the cupboards, and replaced their hardware.
I have no idea the square footage of my place. I have two bedrooms, small living room, smaller kitchen, decent sized bathroom, and access out the backdoor to the laundry room.
But, without further ado…
- view into the living room from the “front door” (a.k.a. the door located in the front end of the house) -
- To the immediate right we have my couch (that I LOATHE but was all I could afford), and the blanket my mom made. -
- Old school TV, and bookcases. One on the left is DVDs, VHS, video games, etc. On the right, manga. -
- oh hai kitchen. As you can see… it’s small and RIGHT there. -
- Living room windows, and my plants. -
- The feature wall in my living room paints around the front door, and the door to my spare room/office/place I go when I don’t want to act 23. -
- My Computer of Fail (or COMFAILTER). My laptop is also on the desk… in not working order, since I tripped into my bedroom, and threw it across the room and broke it… yeah, not a good day in 2009. -
- Bike that doubles as a coat stand in the winter. High chair that needs to go to my mom’s… there’s a carseat behind the door… -
- Closet in the computer room. Doubles as a “front closet” since I don’t have one.-

- Kitchen cupboards that I re-painted. -
- I’m planning on re-doing the countertop one of these (I want to do the refinish via spray paint method, instead of buying new Formica countertops)… and I’m going to do something about the backsplash as well. -
- The only other “counter space” I have. I’m planning on getting a taller microwave hutch, with cabinets above and below. And something that’s not so wide… –
- My ferret cage lives right beside… and I have a place I’m going to be moving it too (which you’ll see shortly) so that I can get a *gasp* TABLE AND TWO CHAIRS. I lack a LOT of seating in my house. -
- and then looking into the bathroom. -
- Why yes… I DO have a pink tub, blue sink, brown counter, and white toilet! -
- I have NO idea what the HELL they were thinking when they did the tub/shower surround. IDIOTS! So when they redo it, I’m requesting white. WHITE WHITE… and NO more wood, ftw. To make the bathroom tie in together, I’m painting the brown cabinets white, refinishing the countertop (still working on a colour? Any suggestions? I don’t want too much white), painting and replacing the light… possibly getting one of those “over the toilet” things, but just taking the cupboard part and mounting it to the wall…. -
- I look at this formica countertop for the bathroom… it’s white with pink and blue speckles. But again… depending on how much it costs… -
- And the walls I want to do a VERY pale pink…. either one of these two… OR -
- One of these two. -
- Across from the bathroom is this random junk collector space. I recently ripped out a shelving unit thing that was built in here. THIS is where the ferrets are moving too. -
- I just have to do a little work on it still. -

- I need to repaint that dresser… and I have another one at my mom’s house I need to get to MY apartment… strip and refinish in black and replace the hardware. -

As you can see I still need to buy a few things for my place. Coffee table, table, chairs, more chairs for the living room and computer room… I need to get the bathroom finished/looked at again. Have some trim that needs to be repainted, it used to all be dark brown (like the closet in the spare room) but I painted it all white, as well as the doors, and when I moved the computer desk into the spare room, I scratched the door and trim around it in my room badly.

If you have any suggestions on places to get “apartment sized” furniture that’d be great… and I’m looking for a modern looking (or easily altered) counter or bar height table and two chairs, if you’ve seen nice ones… let me know, I’m keeping my eyes open!
