My only excuse is, I’m a novice…. a silly one, at that!

I bought a Hibiscus bush two days ago at Walmart. My instinct told me they were tropical (I'm zone 5!!) but then figured, why would Walmart and every other place I've been to in my area, sell these plants if they were tropical.
I bought it anyway.

Got home, planted it outside, THEN, did some research and my instinct was right, tropical... thought, I did see that there are "hardy hibiscus" plants that can survive winters??? I checked mine, and it didn't fit the description of the hardy variety.

So, I dug it up and put it in a large pot, thinking, it'll be easier to bring in during the winters and take back outside during the summers. I also decided, if I killed it by doing this, well, it was going to die anyway once winter struck.

I went with my mother's theory "Kill or cure!" haha.

Can these survive in pots and in the house (sunny window) during winters, or..... is it just going to die anyway once I bring it inside and would have been better off keeping it in the ground?

I'm certainly learning quickly about gardening through trial and error for sure. But you guys have certainly helped me a great deal! Thank you SO MUCH!
