my very first garden as a grown-up
why hello, there-- this year, my dear significant other and I are planting a vegetable/herb garden and working on several flowerbeds in an attempt to get our little house looking pretty, and to cut down on grocery bills later on. this is the first time I've had any sort of garden, not my mom's that I helped in, and I'm nervous! mainly I think that I am nervous about things like...seeds not coming up. ohno! we have almost all the seeds in the ground for our vegetable garden, and some of the flower seeds planted, and the [few] things from last year are doing well...I'm just nervous that nothing's going to grow! I don't know why; I'm good with my 8 or so houseplants. yesterday afternoon, I received from the maintenence people at my university 82 tulips that have already bloomed that they were digging up and ten mystery plants that need shade. I planted the mystery plants today, but haven't had time to plant the 82 tulips yet. they're all red and white bloomers; I saw them when they bloome before, so I'm excited about them for next year. living in zone 7, in a garden that's pretty much full sun and will have sunflowers in the back of all varieties, what would you plant? grasses? phlox? irises? the more perennials the better! I have some mixed wildflower packets, and some moon lilies, etc, to plant, but I'm just not sure. thanks so much for your input!
