I haven't taken pictures of my yard in several years, so I thought I would. :) Someone a while back posted something about Front Yard Gardens...got me to looking at the houses in my area. Pretty much everyone has a good bit of garden/plant space around their lawns in my neck of the woods! (Southwest Washington State, USA.) And on with the pics, cut to save everyone's sanity... My yard isn't very big, maybe 1/8 of an acre, bit more. But I jam lots into it! Welcome to the Jungle! My side yard to the South. It is full of iris and hops right now, with the compost pile at the back near the fence. Next year I think I'm going to remove the hops and plant grapes, as the strip through here gets full sun all day long for the summer (and is dark as heck in the winter.) Other side. This is the "front", near the street/driveway. All lilac hedge and wandering roses. Behind it at the back is my veggie area. This strip used to be grass, with a row of Arborvitae back where the veggie bed is. Yuck. This area is behind the Lilac hedge and in front of the vegetable bed. The veg bed will be expanded through here this fall, as we replace the wooden edges with pavers. Right now this area houses pots of tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, potatoes, and a freesia. Vegetable bed. Behind it you can see into the back yard where the strawberries, blueberries, apples, boysenberries, gooseberries, currants, and aronia berries live. Recent overhaul of the front porch. It's pitch black towards the back of the breezeway, but the front gets enough dappled and reflected light to support shade plants. The Forest. This is immediately to the left of the front porch pic. It's what you'd walk straight into if you came out of our breezeway and didn't go left towards the driveway. One of my roses. My husband mostly cares for the roses, so really it's his.
