I currently live in Austin, TX and came across this tree in my exploratory walks of the greenbelt with my dog. I fell in love with the silly looking thing, and I’d like to know what kind of tree it is, as I’d like to have one of my own someday.
It has a very short trunk, and looonnngg branches which spread widely, which don’t seem to generate much foilage at the bottom, but instead create a canopy effect. It has funny little dandelion-esque pink flower clusters, and a fern-ish type of leaf.
See the cut for crappy cameraphone pics.
Help?

-Leaves and flowers

-Closer on the flowers

-Closer on the leaves
My attempt to take a whole tree shot was useless, it was pretty much unrecognizable from the green background.
