Non-poplars?

Non-poplars?

We are facing the sad, sad task of having to take down the eight huge poplars that line our driveway - they're quite old, for poplars, and have begun to wither at the tops and sucker like mad, can't wait until they fall on the neighbor's house to deal with it - they were already interfering with our water line... but I will miss them tremendously! I am hoping to pull the stumps so we can replant. Can anyone recommend a *different* kind of deciduous tree that has the upright/columnar growth like that? I have no idea if such a thing exists really, but worth asking. We're in western Oregon, zone 7. I considered evergreens, but they would block all the sun from the neighbors garden area, which doesn't seem quite a fair thing to do - but more poplars would just cause the same trouble all over again.
