I need some help. My Husband and I bought our house last August. The previous owners had a couple large plants growing in the back that I have no clue how to care for! When the leaves and stems died, I just left them because I didn't know what else to do. After looking it up online I realized OH DUH I'm supposed to pull all that crap out after they turn brown in the fall XP I just went through yesterday and pulled all the old growth away. Much to my surprise, there were little buds of green already poking through! I didn't even know they grew back this early! I'm telling you, I know next to nothing about gardening...but I REALLY want to learn, so bear with me :D The main thing I need help with is what I think are Tiger Lillies. I think they desperately need to be thinned out. They're in a small section of garden, blocked by a deck on one side and cement borders on the other 3 sides. When I cleared away the old growth, there were so many bulbs they were coming out of the soil and trying to spill over the border! I remember there being a HUGE overgrowth when we moved in, but I just assumed I could fix it in the spring. Should I go through and try to transplant some of the bulbs now, or does it have to wait until fall? If I can do it now, can anyone recommend a gardening site for dummies that can explain how to do it without hurting the plants? Do I need to put more soil on top so they aren't exposed anymore? They appear to be growing just fine in spite of all this, so I imagine they're a pretty hardy plant lol. I just think they'd be happier with a little more room to grow, and I would love to transplant them along our fence. Oh and I'm planning on removing the cement border because it's ugly. I think I'm going to replace it with one of those flexible black vinyl borders, so I can make the border curvy (it's straight now), and hopefully give the plants more room. Really, any help or advice on the subject is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance :D
