North facing planters?

North facing planters?

Hi there, I just joined! I'm a complete novice at gardening, aside from sowing and planting out some petunias when I was eight. Please be patient with me! I've been trying out my googlefu, but I haven't had any luck. (Is Baffled.) I'm basically looking for some varieties of shrub and perennials (I knowz some termz =D) which will be happy to live in full shade. I live in a north facing back to back house, with no garden area - my door goes straight to the pavement - so the plants would have to be able to live in containers too. As well as flowers and shrubs, I'd like to grow some vegetables - is that even possible with my stupid north facing house? In containers? Thanks so much for reading! Me and my housemate will love you forever if you point us in the right direction - whether that be websites, varieties of plant, or just informing us that we're barking up the wrong tree. Edit: I live in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.
