Ok, some random photos of my back yard… and a question for all you tree people.
I'm going to start off with a question for the tree folks first... Yesterday I found a little yellow tag on our door, from the Kansas City Power and Light crew... Apparently they;ve just made a policy about trees being trimmed 20 feet from power lines... Our back yard is about to take a BIG hit. They've marked a lot of trees behind our fence with paint, which is ok, we don't really care about what they are doing BEHIND our fence... But there are 2 trees on the edge and one in the middle of our back yard that provide most of the shade in our backyard for most of the day. Two of them are very old, very tall, very mature trees. One of them is a weird stumpy evergreen, that... truthfully we were going to be taking down ourselves this year anyway. But of the two big deciduous trees, one of them(the Oak) may only need a single branch cleared (crosses fingers) and the other one (I think it's an Elm, what do you think?)... well... I can see why they want to address it... but I can't see how they are going to address it without killing it completely and possibly destroying our fence. Do you? You can click them for bigger images And then, back in '07 I had to have my foundation repaired, and so on top of the deck getting destroyed, the surrounding landscaping was destroyed as well. We haven't had the resources to really do much beyond seeding where they backfilled, but we still have a little joy around the yard that the backhoe didn't maul, much of it in need of some serious weeding and pruning. Any suggestions as to the variety of that purple iris there?
