old philly apartment

old philly apartment

i've been meaning to update photos of our apartment since we moved from our older smaller place (i can't find the old post on here anymore) and it took me awhile longer than i though to get things sorted. it's not done even now, by any stretch of the imagination, however it's definitely getting there. we live in philadelphia, outside center city, but still on main train/road routes within the city limits. our place is huge compared to where we lived in new jersey and with the high ceilings and hardwood floors, i love it. i'm fairly certain the buildings here were built in the late 1920's. we'll be staying here awhile. i live here with my husband and rabbit. there aren't fantastic photos of the kitchen or dining rooms, since we just had a big valentines dinner at our place for friends and they're a bit cluttered. there are also no photos of the bedroom or office because they're still not "finished" and exploded with laundry and coolers of beer after this weekend. maybe next time! my decorative style is based on what i have inherited from my grandparents, bought new, and collected over the years. it's coming together nicely. this is our front door from the inside. we're on the top (4th) floor and have zero foot-traffic to listen to. i found the horseshoe in the slovenian mountains and we cover our peephole with groucho marx. our table with a little mail basket, dog butts to hang keys, a tire mirror, cocktail carousel, and dustbuster (oh yes). view into the kitchen and one of our tikis. not the greatest view of the kitchen, but you get the idea (my new bonsai is on the windowsill). i'm painting the cabinets at some point, probably red or green. a quick chop-shop view of our living room from the entrance. you can see our large tiki and coveted batman poster. there is also a glimpse at our rabbit, fry, next to the table. different view. again, the large tiki, but also now a look into the dining room (the table and chairs are from my grandparents') and at the super-comfiness of our couch. we have some old small scifi/horror posters up, as well as a "football wall" for my english hubby. there are usually scarves up with the photos, but he tore them down to wear at the pub. i also collect coloured vinyl and hung them up, too. disorganized bookshelf. until recently, the books were stacked on the floor while we waited to get the shelf from my parents. i also use the dining room as part of my studio, hence the paintings on the floor. looking into the kitchen from the dining room. massive gas stove (i love it) with bakeware storage built into the side. also, my electrics shelf and the food processor i have yet to find a space for. my grandmother's hutch. we had our china on display until i decided it just wasn't my style to do so. now we have a scotch decanter (matching glasses are drying from Vday), some antiques (also from my gmom), and my printed mcsweeney's subscriptions. our antique winerack. hallway to hell. for now, until i put away our laundry and exercise stuff. the speakers still work, but since we got a newer sound system, i use them as hall tables. another tiki and a Billy Bragg tea towel. our main bathroom. there is another one with purple tiles off of the office, but it's tiny and essentially the men's room (therefore a little messy). i love the aqua and black tiles in here. old glass always looks good in the bathroom! that's it for now. i'll do an update once everything is tidied up and more presentable. wanted to get something out there, as it's a nice apartment!
