Recently I have found myself in a financial predicament where I think I am going to have to turn to social assistance. Basically I left an abusive situation and have been able to work for the past eight months to make enough to cover my rent and all other necessities. After much discussion with my doctor and therapist I have decded that I need to seek treatment for trauma. PTSD symptoms are really bad and negatively impacting my life. I have recently been offered an excellent opportunity to participate in a trauma program. However, it means I will have to take 3 months off of work (my boss has ok’d a leave of absence). If I don’t work, I wont be able to pay my bills.
Which leads me to my questions. Does anyone have any personal experience with Ontario Works? Will getting Ontario Works impact my employability/anything down the road? Is it really as harsh as people describe? Does anybody have any other suggestions?
