I recently got an orchid plant- there were 3 flowers on the stem in full bloom at the time I received it, around 2 weeks ago. I’ve been watering (the roots) minimally and spraying the flowers at a distance every day. But 2 have dried up and fallen off and the last one is in the process of doing so.
I don’t know specifically what type of orchid this is- assume it’s the most common type.
Now the room that these are stored in (mind you, this is a university dorm room so there’s not much I can do about these conditions!): It’s pretty hot and humid, around 26 degrees celsius or 80 degrees farenheit, and 55% humidity, although there is a fan on high!
I have a few questions: a) once the actual orchid flower blooms, how long will it stay “open” for?, b) what are the optimal room conditions for an orchid to grow? c) if the room conditions I have them in are bad, is there anything I can do to make its condition better?
The person that gave this to me is a close friend of mine and I don’t want them to see it all dead and in bad condition when they visit! Thanks!
