Question about separating

I have a beautiful, thriving pink bleeding heart that I planted a couple of years ago in front of my house. My mother in law asked this morning if she could have some, which I have absolutely no problem with. My question is this – it’s flowering all over the place. Can I do it [...]

Tomato storage

Hey all!  I’m starting to harvest my tomatoes-this is my first year actually getting this far (usually I lose the plants to mildew or some other heat/humidity related sickness before I get more than one or two fruits).  I’ve harvested about 15 tomatoes this week so far, and they’re ripening at the rate of 3-4 of [...]

squash plant question

My squash plants are growing great, they’ve got blossoms on them however the blossoms fall off and never turn into squash.   I always gently flick my tomato flowers to help them pollinate, so I tried this with the squash….but it’s not helping. Any suggestions on what I can do?

Apartment advice needed.

Hello, all. I’m tempted to show pics of the space I’m in now (junior enlisted housing, Ft. Wainwright, AK), but it’s kind of a mess right now. But if anyone’s interesting, I could take some snapshots anyway. ANYHOW… My husband and I just found out today where we’re going next: Fort Drum, NY (upstate NY, [...]

Ten Minute Trellis

I am growing lots of pea plants, and I saw the little tendrils reaching and grabbing any twig they could find. I realized these little seedlings need something to climb on, and since they are too small from a big trellis, I decided to make tiny trellises. It only took me 30 minutes to make [...]

gray hairstreak on my Mexican hats

And he even matches just a little.

My name is Lauren and I’m addicted to seedlings.

I stopped by Lowe’s today looking for refills for my mini greenhouse and they had baby fruit trees and vines for $5! Normally I could resist but they had some lonely, neglected citrus seedlings/saplings and I had to buy some. I got a Washington Navel orange and a Mexican lime to go with our unkown [...]

Trellis, Stakes, Cages?

I’ve been looking around online for information about trellis, stakes, and cages for my tomato, cucumber, pepper, and garden bean plants. I’m getting some complex information and I just need basic beginner ideas. My plants are inside, but I want to put them out this weekend in my raised beds. I’m in zone 5. I’m [...]
