I’ve got a pressure canner.  I need advice from any of you who have some experience canning with a pressure canner. I’m doing meat in the presure canner.  The meat is in sauce.  I’m following the instructions, and the jars are sealing properly, the food isnt spoiling, pressure’s fine, and all that…. But i think [...]

Plant ID!

I went through a period of saving seeds from everything and planting them to see what I could get to grow, but I can’t remember what these mystery plants were.  They have thorns, so I’m guessing some sort of citrus, but seeing as that can mean a wide variety of plants still, any further identification would be [...]

Tree ID help, please?

I took a bunch of pictures of odd/neat/pretty plants while on a trail ride a few days ago, and I’ve managed to id most of them myself. But this tree has me stumped. :( All pics taken in the Santa Ana Riverbed close to Riverside, CA. I am in love with the purple! Some are [...]

Everything is in bud on Bloom Day

Aside from the rose campion (above) and the geranium, everything I have been anticipating is just in bud right now. Pelargoniums, marigolds, lavender, hydrangea, rudbekia and even the potatoes. Promising Beginning

I garden in extreme S. TX, where heat, bugs, and diseases make gardening, shall we say, challenging. I keep trying, despite it all. A few days ago, I noticed that the same critters, judging by chew patterns, that ate my poor melons into oblivion last year were apparently trying again this year. Did some research, [...]

Porn!

Floribunda; Tuscan Sun, throws caution to the wind. The fragrant white peony will not be outdone. Siberian iris cuts loose as well. It’s been a good year for irises actually. Floribunda; Fragrant Wave is a little shy at first but she’ll be bustin’ out soon. The stage. Friendly Garden Cat keeps an eye out for [...]

Brainstorming session!

I have a skylight in my master bath which, in the summer, gets light coming directly down and fairly strong in the afternoon. It really lights the entire room up. I’d like to hang some plants inside it (and some below it but not so low we’d hit our heads) and make the room feel [...]
