Parrot-safe Ant control
Spring is here, and that means, ants! This year, they are particularly interested in our new parrot's play table and the area around it. We had this problem last year with the cats' food, but solved it by putting the food dish inside a larger dish with water in it- the ants couldn't get to the food. But here, the parrot is so messy, flinging food everywhere, a dish of water won't work. I sweep around the area several times a day (wood floors not carpet), but it seems to make no difference. They're following trails, even if it leads to no food, and then they just keep milling about until the parrot flings his food again. I've tried scrubbing the places they walk/trail (floor and wall) with vinegar, and another time with hot pepper water (Made with habeneros!). Still, the ants come back. I even, reluctantly, tried Raid ant spray around the perimeter of the room (along the floor boards, the windows, and outside), and letting the room air out before bringing the parrot and cats back in. Still, the ants come back. Can anyone recommend other things to try to get rid of these little red ants - preferably methods that are pet safe- we have cats and a parrot I don't want to risk making ill. PS. I don't care if it discolours paint etc- the place is going to be knocked down when we leave.
