Pine Mulch- Its Free, can I use it.
My town has an enormous pile of free mulch. Judgeing from the smell, and the pile of pine trimings awaiting grining I would say its made of primarily of ground pine trees needles and all. Ecology Action warns against using pine needles in the compost pile, saying that they contain a form of kerosene. Nonetheless, I like the price, and I was thinking that I could put my front lawn garden to bed for the winter using a thin layer of this mulch, and digging it in as I plant. I also was going to use it around my fruit trees and berry bushes. Has anyone had any experience using this kind of mulch?
