I came home today to a porch full of plants that my mother-in-law somehow rounded up, I'm not sure from where. (She caught on that I like gardening, and now randomly scavenges plants for me from either the college or her gardening friends. It's cool, but it's always a surprise what she'll find! Especially since she's not really a gardener...) Anyway, I now have a decent sized clump of some kind of small iris, some canna lily bulbs, a clump of flox (no idea if it was the tall variety that's common around here or something that would stay small) and a huge wilting something with a purple flower on it. She didn't know what the big one was, only that it was a perennial. I feel like I should know what this is, because I've seen several photos of this (or maybe just similar) flower on here, but never caught the name! It was pretty wilted from sitting on the porch for hours; I hope it makes it. I stuck the roots in a bucket of water... I already planted the iris and flox (it's been raining here for two-three days so that was a fun dig-through the mud clumps job.) It was already late, dinner was on the stove, and we had friends from out of town drop in unexpectedly so I hope leaving them in water overnight will be ok.
