As we come into December, bunches of mistletoe will start appearing for sale. If you can, either buy or find a bunch of mistletoe which has berries (they’re small whitish-greenish berries).
Mistletoe is a parastic plant that MUST have a host plant to grow on. I’ve seen mistletoe growing most commonly on maples, oaks, and even privet hedge.
Here’s how you plant the seeds:
Take a berry, squeeze it, and wipe the gooey seed on a branch that’s at least two years old. (One seed to a branch.) Then leave it alone. That’s all you have to do.
Your mistletoe seed will grow a root into the host branch and slowly begin to grow. It may take 5-7 years to form a little bush suitable for cutting.
