Planting a Rose In the Shade?
I suspect the answer to this is: "Find a different spot", but I'm going to ask anyway. ;) I have recently purchased the rugosa rose Blanc Double De Courbet. It's typically a beautiful shrub with white, deliciously scented blossoms. I have a spot picked out for it at the back of my garden, but now I'm worried it's too shady there. I have done some research and read that the Blanc Double De Courbet is tolerant of shade, but I'm still concerned about the amount of shade it will receive. I know that most roses prefer lots of sun, but I know that there are some particular roses for whom some shade is not an issue. So my questions to all you fine folks are: How much shade is too much for it? When they say "shade tolerant" do they mean that it's able to cope with a a couple hours of shade and the rest sun, or do they mean it can live in the shade with no adverse effects? I'll be putting it into the ground this weekend, either there, or if needed, in a different spot, though I'm really wanting to put it in the spot I've already got picked out. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
