Well, my husband got me a baby orchid (who I named Oliver) at home depot on sunday, along with the stuff the lady in the garden center told him to buy (Orchid Soil, which looks an awful lot like any other mulch, and a pot with holes in it). Because our problem with past houseplants has been that we have a very dark house, we put him on a stand in a window, and got him a plant light (though I am suspicious of this light, the package only says its to "create a dramatic display" nothing of promoting plant health). I was actually feeling pretty good about this, following all the directions on the package he came in. But both friends who have come over since then garden, and they laughed and said "Good luck, those are all but impossible!"
So, I know a couple of you grow orchids, what can I do to ensure that he lives a long, healthy life?
As you can see, he came home with a couple yellow brown spots, his plant light is behind him, it shines up, the package said no direct sunlight, so I didn't want to scald him with the Halogen light either. I watered on Sunday, and again on Tuesday because the mulch all seemed pretty dry.
