Please help me stop murdering plants!!!

Please help me stop murdering plants!!!

I have to be one of the worst gardeners ever! The first plant I ever owned was back in primary school when I won a cactus (apparently easy to look after?) well, i killed it. Since then, Mum has always confiscated plants from me and has nursed them back to health because if they stay with me, they die.

I recently bought some basil and oregano and I think I’ve completely killed the oregano…

I chopped off all the really dead branches, hoping that then the plant could concentrate on a smaller area to grow. Can anyone help me with ideas to revive it, or should I give up?! Currently it’s sitting inside on my window sill because that’s the sunniest area of the house (i was told it likes lots of sun).

As for my basil, the first plant I bought seems to be doing ok now except that half of it has died and turned to wood (see left side):

I recently bought a new basil plant, and I can’t understand it because parts of it seem to be wilting like crazy while the rest of it is ok. I am scared to water it too much because the guy I bought it from said that I probably overwatered the oregano and killed it that way and thats why my other basil was dying too. Since I stopped watering the other basil so much it’s been doing well. But here’s what the new guy looks like:

It’s slightly baffling because the leaves from the main stalk seem to be ok, but the others are wilting…. not sure if I should just water it or not!

Incidentally, i’m living in Quebec, Canada and I’ve been bringing these plants inside at night now since it’s colder. During the day they sit outside on my balcony in full sunlight until around 2pm when the sun moves around to the other side of the apartment block.

The other plant I need help with is my flowers. I just bought them last week and already they are suffering!! I dont even know what type of flowers they are, I just asked for the yellow ones because they were pretty… stupid yeah I know. So until this morning, I have had them sitting out on the balcony in the sun with the basil. Today I have moved them to another corner of the balcony where it is less sunny, I’m wondering if they don’t like full sun…? Anyway, again, not sure how much water to give them! I’m really completely clueless when it comes to gardening but I want to learn!!! I love my flowers, I don’t want them to die (especially within one week, that really is sad!).

And finally, I also bought a chili plant and it seems to be the only one of my collection that is not complaining of my treatment! But, with the nights starting to get a bit more chilly (pardon the dreadful pun!) should I be bringing it inside as well?
Hope you guys can help me!!! I really want my little garden to thrive!
