ponytail palms

ponytail palms

i had two lovely ponytail palms i believe might have come to very untimely deaths in an unexpectedly cold night when i was out of town. their lovely ponytail fronds are dead to all appearances, and i am very sad about this. the smaller one is still a round bulb in its trunk, and my question is this: i pulled out the dead fronds (they came out quite easily--the new growth had turned a blanched white and just fell out when i tugged). is the little bulb-trunk dead or can it grow new fronds? i can't bring myself to look at the larger one to tell if it's actually dead or not.
