preventing car repos
I am currently 6 weeks behind on my monthly car payment. Earlier this month I attempted to set up a payment arrangement with the company, but when my new payment date came around on 12/15, I didn't have the money. The loan company is Credit Acceptance and I've had the loan for 2 1/2 years. I'm aware that I suck, and Id really rather not receive lectures. My excuses: husband out of work with back injury; unexpected medical bills; recent pay cut at my job (monthly furloughs to prevent layoffs); the car in question keeps breaking down, so Ive had to spend a chunk of money on repairs. I am a social worker and my car is my office, so I cant not drive. QUESTIONS: 1. Has anyone dealt with Credit Acceptance? How far behind can you get before they repo your car? 2. Is there anything I can do to keep them from reposessing my car? I'll be able to get caught up with them in the next 2 weeks, but Im afraid they wont wait? 3. If I asked the comp. if they are going to come get my car, will they actually tell me? Cause if it's too late to fix this, I cant afford to try to catch up my payments. I'll need that money to buy a new car so I wont lose my job. TIA!
