Proper Seed Saving

Proper Seed Saving

I am trying to find out what is the best method for storing seeds over a long period of time. Right now I have them in plastic bags inside an old bubble mailer that I put a rubber band around and stuck in the fridge. Is this the best way to store them? and will this ensure that they will germinate? Also how should I test to see if they are still fine? Do I need to test seed from each seed packet or just a few seeds? If you know the answer to these questions or of any good sites I would appreciate it. I did just buy Seed to Seed by Susan Answorth, should I just wait to get the book and see what she says? Thanks for your help.
