Pumpkin and Corn Problems
Hello again folks. I'm in Florida zone 9. I planted all my seeds back in Feb. I've got most of my veggies in a 4x8 raised bed. My corn plants were doing very well but stopped growing at four feet tall and then the corn didn't grow right at all. I opened up some of the ears and saw they were stunted, chewed up and brown on some kernnels. The main thing I noticed were ants. I had a caterpillar probelm a few weeks back but I managed to pick them all off. I just saw ants. I think they were black ants or possibly fire ants. What can I do to get rid of them without poisoning the crops? I really think the ants ruined my plants. I think they're all through my raised bed too and just want them to go away. Now my pumpkins are doing much better than I've ever seen. Last year was a disaster, but they still aren't doing as well as they should. The biggest problem is powdery mildew and I do spray them once a week with soap shield. I laid down new top soil and I always add a few shovel fulls of cow manuer every few weeks. But the leaves begin to die from the root and move up the vine. This is the first time I've actually gotten pumpkins on three different varieties but the dying leaves are slowy creeping up to them. I don't know what to do. Once I week I feed them the liquid miracle grow vegeatable fertilizer too.
