question, and butterflies!

question, and butterflies!

Has anyone ever grown Liana beans? If you have, did you notice ants being particularly drawn to the flowers and the base of the developing beans? Ants are crawling all over mine but do not seem to be bringing aphids or doing any damage. Why would that happen? They're completely ignoring the Kentucky Wonder beans, but maybe only because those flowers are further from the ground.

Also:

I really wish butterfly bushes weren't classified as invasive weeds - although I guess it's less problematic to grow one in a city? Since mine began flowering this year, the most amazing things have been turning up in my garden. Also, honeybees seem to like it and are flocking to my yard for the nectar, then moving on to pollinate everything else. (Whoa, can you imagine buddleia honey? Does that exist?)

This isn't as clear as I wanted it to be, but the wind was blowing AND this swallowtail was camera shy and didn't sit still - until the camera's battery died. I can hardly believe this butterfly is real, and the pictures don't at all do it justice. This one is slightly better:

This is a plain old cabbage butterfly, whose evil offspring are eating my cauliflower, but I like this view of it:

And the ubiquitous Red Admiral:
