Question for the UK members
A friend of mine is mentally ill and is having to take a year out of university to deal with it. In order to get the psychiatric care she is entitled to, she needs to return to her place of permanent residence, which is London. The problem is accommodation. She does not have friends or family that can take her in. She's entitled to council housing, but the waiting list is eight months. Until then, she's entitled to financial assistance for a single room in shared housing. She has somewhere to stay for the next few weeks, but after that, she's on her own. She's considering squatting, but this is very far from ideal, since the inevitable need for extra caution would add to the stress of her situation and probably have a detrimental effect on her health. Her budget is a maximum of £50 per week, and due to the restrictions regarding psychiatric care, she needs to stay within East London, ideally Tower Hamlets. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any ideas for safe, clean, affordable housing, or related resources, would be very welcome and very much appreciated. I've told her about Couchsurfing, but that's all I could think of to help her. Very many thanks in advance.
